What happens if the client has a power cut?
In most offices a power cut means no access to computer or telephone systems and a lack of lighting, leading to the termination of normal work activity. However, all Kardex systems have the option of being manually operated, allowing normal working activities to continue, even in a power cut.
Are the Kardex products noisy?
The Kardex Datastack is designed to fit into any modern office environment, conforming to all EU/UK legislation regarding noise in the workplace.
Are they user friendly?
Extremely. The systems can be operated either directly via a simple numeric keypad, allowing the relevant tray to be bought forward, simply by entering the tray number and pressing the ‘enter’ key, or alternatively the systems can also be driven and accessed via Kardex PowerPick Office Records Management software via an adjacent PC.
Are the systems speed efficient?
Very. On a typical unit, the maximum access times are five seconds. Compared to four drawer or lateral filing cabinets, the Kardex Datastack is an extremely efficient retrieval solution.
How expensive are they?
Not as expensive as you may perceive. The Kardex Datastack is extremely cost-effective and can offer a very attractive return on investment (ROI) and considerable floor space savings over conventional methods of storage (60-80%), which in expensive city centres can prove to be a huge saving!
In terms of efficiency of retrieval and reduction in misplaced files, additional savings of 40% can be recognised.
The Kardex Datastack also offers full control in terms of auditing, access and security of valuable data; ensuring compliancy with relevant industry requirements – FSA, Data Protection.
The units can also offer optional fire protection of up to 2 hours for extremely sensitive or valuable information.
In terms of meeting Health & Safety legislation, with ‘the file to user’ concept, provided by the Kardex Datastack, bending and stretching is eliminated, therefore staff sickness and potential back issues are greatly reduced.

How many records can fit into the system?
Typically the Kardex Datastack will hold the equivalent of 20 four drawer cabinets, providing a floor space saving of over 60%. In certain applications this can increase to 80-90% with unit heights up to 8metres being possible.
Each Kardex Datastack is available in various heights, widths and depths and a variety of internal configurations to accommodate all forms of media (microfilm, CD Roms, VHS Cassettes, etc). The machines can also go through floors, acting as a central storage repository on several levels.
All Kardex Datastacks are bespoke to the unique demands and requirements of individual customers.
How easy is the installation of a Kardex system?
Kardex assign a professional Project Manager to oversee and plan all installations – liaising with all internal and external stakeholders and subsequently managing the project to expectation.
Kardex systems are built from the inside and within its own final footprint; allowing the Datastack to be installed to upper floors of buildings and into the most difficult and smallest of locations. Kardex have also been known to crane in components through upper floor windows to make the installation even more stress free.
What if we move or change offices?
In the same manner as its installation, all units are easily disassembled by the Kardex Professional Team and relocated and re-installed. This ensures maximum return on your investment as the unit can move with the organisation. Conversely if the unit is leased from Kardex, Kardex can offer a new unit that maximises the new location and take the old one back at no additional cost to the client.
What colours do the systems come in?
The Kardex Datastack comes in a variety of colours, helping to integrate perfectly into any office environment. The unit can also be supplied in most RAL and NCS colours at no additional cost, ensuring the unit is sensitive to corporate designs and colour schemes.
What if my Kardex system breaks down?
Kardex Datastacks are renowned for their durability and reliability with many clients’ units over 20 years old, still in operation today.
However, like any electro-mechanical device it is prudent to ensure that your business critical solution has the back up and support of a global and market leading organisation.
Every Kardex Datastack comes with a 12 year warranty and is supplied with a 1 year maintenance contract, providing a break/fix callout Mon-Fri, 8-5, with an 8 hour response. Kardex can also offer upgrade options with up to 24/7 coverage and a 4 hour response for the most crucial of applications.
