The KARDEX MEGAMAT RS is an automated vertical carousel using the paternoster principle. It uses the „goods to person“ concept for goods with a high picking frequency.

By introducing cutting-edge production and design technologies, Kardex has thoroughly refined the Megamat system, which has been proven over decades of use, for environmental soundness and energy efficiency.Both at the production stage and throughout the entire operating lifecycle, the Kardex Megamat RS meets the conditions for a responsible and cost-conscious resource utilisation system:

• At the same time as improving the structure, a significant reduction in material usage has been realized: compared to the previous model, certain components of the new Megamat RS have a reduction in weight of up to 50%.
• The new Kardex Megamat RS requires 40% less energy. This has been achieved through the perfect combination of drive motor, precision-calibrated frequency converter and the use of high efficiency transmissions. This results in drastically reduced lifecycle costs.
• Kardex is committed to environmentally sound management also in the production of the Megamat system: In recent years a highly efficient energy management system has been developed and integrated in all production and supply processes. Kardex has been recognised more than once at the German federal level for its highly resource-efficient processes.

The principle

The compact design of the Kardex Megamat RS ensures maximum storage space using minimal floor space. Use as a free-standing unit or integrated into a building over several floors with multiple access openings is possible up to a height of 10 metres. This high-density storage enables the greatest possible warehouse capacity. Each Megamat can be used as a stand-alone solution or can be extended as a networked solution as required. The modular structure allows for maximum investment security and future adaptability. 

The Kardex Megamat RS features a multilevel safety system for personal safety and to safeguard stored goods.

As standard, the user is provided with optimal protection against work accidents by the protection system in the access opening and an earthquake-proof¹ storage system. Stored goods are protected from unauthorised access by a lock on the
access opening. As an alternative to this mechanical anti-theft system, it is also possible to secure the entire system, or specific areas within it, either by the use of individualised password or using RFID chips for personal identification.

To ensure maximum safety, Kardex has equipped the new Megamat RS with four impressive features:

• Emergency hand crank
  Even in the event of a power outage, the emergency hand crank guarantees access to stored products at all times.
• Automatic chain tensioner
  The new chain tensioner significantly reduces the susceptibility of the load chain to wear and tear. The result: a reliable and long-lasting storage system.
• Clip system
  The innovative Kardex clip system allows for simple, fast and extremely safe assembly of the panels. The greater system stability guarantees maximum protection both for stored goods and on-site employees.
• Lightweight sliding door
  The new sliding door design, which offers an exceptionally light and smooth movement can be activated either automatically or manually. The lockable door can be opened with just one hand. This guarantees ease of handling
  and uninterrupted work.
